Mistake 1: Choosing the wrong affiliate program.

Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as rapid as possible. In their dash off to be part of one, they tend to choose a bandwagon product. This is the kind of products that the program thinks is red-hot. They opt for the product that is in demand without actually considering if the product appeals to them. This is not a very wise step obviously.

Instead of jumping straight into it, try choose a product in which you are truly interested in. If you want to succeed in the affiliate market, you should take some time to plan and figure out your actions.

Get a product that appeals to you. Then do some research about the product to see if they are in demand. Promoting a product you are more passionate about is easier than promoting one for the sake of the earnings only.

Mistake 2: Joining too many many affiliate programs.

Since affiliate programs are very much easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiples of affiliate programs to try and maximize the earnings you will be getting. Besides you might be thinking that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs.

True, it is great to have multiple sources of income. However, joining multiple programs and attempting to promote all of them at the same time will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them.

The result will shows otherwise. The maximum potential of your affiliate program is not met and the income generated will not exactly be as huge as you were thinking initially it would. The best way to get excellent result is by joining only one program that pays at least 40% commission. Then give it your best ever effort by promoting your products enthusiastically. You should now have a beginning list of people that would be good candidates for your affiliate program. I’m sure that you can now see how simple this can be using the strategy outlined above.

Now, let’s talk about “the snowball effect”

You might be wondering what “the snowball effect” is and that’s the whole basis for today’s message. You see, there are two different types of affiliate programs; one tier and two tier. In a one tier, an affiliate gets paid on all sales that they refer to your site. In a two tier program the affiliate gets paid on all of the sales they refer you and all of the sales of the people they refer to you. (Two levels if you will)

I recommend a two tier program because this gives your affiliates a reason to promote your affiliate program itself getting even more affiliates for you! After you get to a certain number of affiliates with a two tier system, your program will start growing on it’s own without interaction from you!

This is what the snowball effect is!

It is always best to ask questions first before you join an affiliate program . Do a little study about the choices of program that you intend to join. Get some important answers first because they will be the deciding point of what you will be achieving later on.

Common question like:-

1) Will it cost you anything to join?

Nowadays, most affiliate program being offered are absolutely free of charge. So why must you settle for those that charge you some dollars before joining.

2) What is the frequency of the commission issued?

Every single program is different from each other. Some issue their checks once per month, every quarter & so on. Select the one that is best suited to your payment time choice. Most affiliate programs are setting a minimum earned commission amount that an affiliate must meet in order for their checks to be issued.

3) What is the hit per sale ratio?

It is the average number of hits to a banner or text link it takes to generate a sale based on all affiliate statistics. The factor is extremely important because this will tell you how much traffic you must generate before you can earn a commission from the sale.

4) How are referrals tracked and for how long do they remain in the system?

You need to be very confident on the program enough to track those people you refer from your site. This is the only way that you can credit for any sale. The period of time that those people stay in the system is another important factor. This is because some visitors do not buy initially but may want to return months later to make the purchase. You need to know if you will still get credit for the sale if it is done some months from a certain day.

5) What are the kinds of affiliate statistics available?

Your choice of affiliate program should be capable of offering detailed statistics. They should be readily available online anytime you decide to check them out. Constantly checking your individual statistics is important to know how many impressions, hits and sales are already generated from your site.
