Surprises After Marriage

Well.. well.. well.. more surprises here in 2018. Let’s begin with the known item.

I did mentioned in my previous post that I bought a 5-room flat in Woodland. We finally moved in & it’s such a wonderful feeling having a bigger house & all that space distributed to the rest of the family. Everyone has their own room, err.. No lerr.. well, my 3 boys share a room while my daughter being the only girl has her own room. All of them were pretty excited when we moved in.

We moved in 2 weeks after we got the key on the 5th October 2018. Not much renovation are needed as the house is in top notch condition. We just cleaned, painted and touch up a little here & there & walaa.. hired a mover & zoom to our new place. It was fun & exciting moving to a new place but what I don’t like is the unpacking. It took us 3 weeks just to unpack all the boxes. hahaha.. Procrastination just got the better of me on these unpacking chores.

My wife quit her job to become full time housewife to take care of me and my children now that we have a big family of 6. What we did not know after she quit her job is that we are going to have another new member in May 2019. Yeahh..!! My wife is very much 2 months pregnant when we found out using the home pregnancy test kit. There’s a funny story I want to share in confirming her pregnancy.

We went to a private clinic nearby in Tampines to confirm but what shocked us is that the doctor said she is not pregnant when they tested her urine. The doctor tested it twice, same result. We were a bit sad because we were hoping it to be positive. We went back home and decided that we will go see the doctor again a week later. My wife bought another test kit & tested it the next day. It shows she is pregnant. We had a discussion and concluded that the doctor test strip could be less sensitive than the home test kit or maybe it is just too early to detect her pregnancy because it is just 2 months. We decided to wait another week or 2 before we go back to see the same doctor.

So life goes on as per normal for me but to my wife it doesn’t. She knows deep down in her heart that she is pregnant even though the doctor test strip doesn’t show it. I guess it’s just her motherly instinct to know her own body well. She tested it again using the home test kit. It’s positive but she wants an official result from a trained doctor from any clinic. During this time I was at work and did not know what is happening at home. To my surprise she called me at work & told me she is at Tampines Polyclinic and she has confirmed a positive result that she is pregnant. I’m was surprised to hear the news but at the same time very happy & delighted to hear these awesome news. She told me positive result is from urine tested in a lab using don’t know what equipment. This means it definitely 100% pregnancy as it is more accurate.

ok.. ok.. I lied lah saying it’s a funny story but it’s actually an emotional roller coaster feeling we had never experienced before in confirming the pregnancy. It’s definitely one story I will remember & share with the little one when (she/he) is born next year and when (she/he) is big enough to understand.

Here’s another surprise. The place where I have been working for the past ten years will be gone forever. My 2nd home, MacPherson Primary School, will merge with Cedar Primary in 2019 & therefore automatically the place where I earned my rice bowl for the last 10 years will change to somewhere new which is still unknown to me for now. (end of contract soon)

It is sad to leave the place come this December. I will miss everyone there & I will definitely miss the school. The last day with the students on the 16 November was the saddest day this year. As we sang the school song for the very last time, I teared. As the school flag being lowered and handover to new Vice Principal of Cedar Primary in 2019, it feels like I’m drowning with tears and sadness. It took me a while to compose myself. I saw many students and teachers crying as well. It was such a somber day.

2018 is the year that many meaningful events happened for me & it still left with roughly a month more to go before 2019. I just hope that things will get better from tomorrow onward and less negative surprises for me. As the future holds unknown to me, I hope my transition to new endeavors be a smooth one next year 2019. So good luck to me…
